The Journey

When I entered the hearing care industry 4 years ago, I had no idea just how expensive hearing aids were. When I learned they could cost between 2 to 6 thousand dollars a pair, I immediately understood why so many people go without them. I was proud to be a part of that solution, operating in the OTC market that would allow users access to more affordable care. I helped support thousands of patients in using their hearing aids and was lucky enough to learn from many different licensed professionals, gaining insight into what patients were experiencing as well as what their experience would be like if they decided to go to a clinic.

Over time, I moved beyond patient support into developing training programs for new agents and building systems that improved the patient experience. I worked closely with audiologists, hearing instrument specialists, and care coordinators to better understand what patients need and how to deliver that through every touchpoint, especially for people who were nervous, skeptical, or underserved.

I also interacted with many licensed professionals who seemed to view the OTC market as some kind of shady black mark on the hearing care world, stereotyping everyone in the space as part of a quick cash grab not focused on the patient. Knowing that wasn’t the case, I set out on a personal mission to provide the best care I could for every patient I came across.

Sometimes that was a big challenge. Talking to people who can’t hear well over the phone is quite the task, but it was extremely rewarding. I love working with this demographic, I’ve never been called an angel as much in my life as I was during those years doing phone support!

The more knowledge I gained, the more I wanted to prove to people on a large scale that the OTC model has good people operating in the space who truly care about their patients and that hearing care doesn’t have to cost as much as a car payment. I co-founded We Help Hearing to extend my mission of helping people find the care they need and to shed light on the barriers of entry in the hearing aid world.

Today, through We Help Hearing, I’m working to make hearing care easier to understand and more accessible, especially for people who feel like they’ve been left out of the traditional system. I’m not a doctor, but I’ve been on the front lines with thousands of patients, and I care deeply about helping people get the support they need.
